World Photography Awards

Non c'è solo il World Press Photo, Wpp. Al Palais des Festivals di Cannes, in Francia, ogni anno si assegnano i World Photography Awards, Wpa. Non soltanto un premio, ma un insieme di appuntamenti che ruotano intorno alla fotografia diventati in breve tempo uno dei maggiori eventi mondiali ad essa dedicati: mostre, proiezioni, workshop, dibattiti, letture di portfolio, progetti per studenti, un magazine, una Photographic Academy (formata da rappresentanti di agenzie internazionali, gallerie, case editrici, fondazioni, giornalisti e fotografi) che giudica le immagini in concorso, una cerimonia finale, in programma quest'anno dal 22 al 27 aprile, con la partecipazione di fotografi, galleristi, giornalisti, agenti, critici, appassionati.

Le categorie dei World Photography Awards coprono un ampio insieme di generi fotografici: dalle belle arti alla fotografia utilizzata nella moda, nella pubblicità e nello sport, dal documentario fotografico e umanistico, con protagonisti le persone, la società, la cultura, l'attualità, ai paesaggi, la natura. Di seguito pubblichiamo la short-list di fotografi professionial e amateur per ciascuna categoria, annunciata lo scorso 23 febbraio; immagini selezionate tra le circa 80 mila arrivate alla giuria, di autori provenienti da 48 paesi. Tra i fotografi delle short-list saranno scelti tre finalisti per ogni categoria, e scelti i vincitori che saranno premiati a Cannes.

Più nel dettaglio, le dodici "professional categories" riguardano tre generi: Photojournalism and Documentary (Current Affairs, Sport, Contemporary Issues, Arts and Entertainment); Commercial (Advertising, Fashion and Music), Fine Art (Portraiture, Conceptual and Constructed, Natural History, Landscape and Architecture). Mentre sono nove le "amateur categories": Architecture, Conceptual and Constructed, Documentary, Fashion, Landscape, Music, Natural History, Portraiture, Sport.
